Love for others

Spiritual Conferences, Vol. 1, 4: There are certain kinds of love which are considered to be very great and perfect in the eyes of people but which are insignificant and worthless before God.  This is because such forms of friendship are not grounded in true charity, which is God.

 

Cordiality or tender love for others

I have no doubt that she wants to grasp the full meaning of this cordiality recommended in the Rules.  Once I have explained this, you will understand better when I pass on o the second part of the question that is: The moderation we should exercise in the expression of this tender love.

 

Cordial Friendship                                                                                                                              

Spiritual Conferences, Vol. 1, 5. What is meant by cordial friendship?  It means that it is a friendship which has its foundation in the heart.  We know that love has its seat in the heart and we can never love our neighbour too much and we can never exceed the bounds of reason in this love, so long as it resides in the heart.

Mutual Charity: Sermon concerning Our Lord's commandment of love of neighbour, His desire that we be united with each other, the relationship between love of God and love of neighbour, in what way the Command­ment of love of neighbour is new, Our Lord's exam­ple of love of neighbour, Our Lord's restoration of man to God's image and likeness, seeing and lov­ing Our Lord in our neighbour, the extent to which we should love our neighbour, how it is better to be spent for our neighbour's sake than to spend ourselves for him in the way we choose, union with God and our neighbour in the Most Blessed Sacrament, love of neighbour as the Commandment which God stresses to us the most earnestly, and how we should love our neighbour with the same incomparable ardour and constancy with which Our Lord loved us on the Cross.
