Chastity

 

The necessity of Chastity:

 

Introduction to the Devout Life, 3:12. Chastity is the lily of virtues.  It renders men almost equal to the Angels.  Nothing is beautiful except by purity and the purity of men is chastity.

 

Counsels for preserving chastity:

 

Introduction to the Devout Life, 3:13 Be extremely prompt to turn away from all the tendencies and all the attractions of lust.  In fact, this evil acts in an imperceptible manner.

 

Chastity in Married Life:

 

Introduction to the Devout Life, 3:39  The marriage bed should be spotless (Heb. 13:4) as the Apostle says, that is, free from immodesty and other unholy defilements.  Also, holy marriage was first established I the earthly Paradise.  There was no disorder of concupiscence, nor anything immodest till the fall.
