MISSIONARY SPIRIT OF SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES  (Book II): Apostle of the Chablais

Midathada Mariadas msfs

Francis de Sales proved himself a missionary apostle par excellence, as the one sent by God through the mandate of the local Church authorities to the ignorant erring flock of the Chablais.  He was totally present among them with the spirit of His Divine Master, the Good Shepherd, by his own good life-testimony and outgoing charity towards others for their salvation through the communication of the total truth about the infinitely loving God, the Heavenly Father.

However, Francis cannot be considered as the “ecumenist” in the strict sense of the word by the modern ecumenical movement especially after the Second Vatican Council.  All the same, there is no doubt that the Apostle of Chablais and later the Prince Bishop of the diocese of Geneva manifested and left behind a remarkable spirit and example of ecumenical approach.  It was marked by a sincere and cordial fraternal charity towards the persons and earnest love for truth to be investigates by the primary sources of Christianity, the Bible and the authentic ecclesial tradition for a fruitful ecumenical dialogue.
