Cover Design:

The figure of the Cross by "Sword-sheath" is the image of inspiration for young Francis de Sales to accept unconditionally his ecclestical vocation after his marvellous success in university studies at Padua. The double-edged Sword indicates his fervent love for God and ardent zeal for souls whereas the sheath denotes protection by his incomparable love for the Blessed Mother Mary, his Heavenly Queen.  As such, it is an apt symbol for the title of this First Book "PREPARATION".
